Space Systems Engineer

Who We Are Looking For

As the Space Systems Engineer, you will play a foundational role in developing CisLunar Industries’ engineering and technical organization. You will plan, lead, and support development of the Modular Space Foundry (MSF), the Modular Configurable Electric Power Converter (MCEPC), and collaborate with engineers to develop requirements for all major MSF and MCEPC subsystems, ensure the proper teams and resources are in place to design and build subsystems, verification and documentation that subsystems meet requirements, and ultimately overall successful on-orbit operation of the MSF and MCEPC through product lifespan. You will also support client work as necessary.

We describe here the skills, qualifications, and responsibilities that we need to have as a team. You don't need all of them. Your aptitude for complex technical challenges and your practical experience designing/building/coding will be more important to us than specific qualifications or tools any day!

    • Mechanical

    • Thermal

    • Fluids and Valving

    • Power Electronics

    • Metallurgy

  3. Proven experience in software and/or hardware development and working directly with space hardware, like JAMA

  4. Experience with spacecraft propulsion and pressurized systems

  5. Proven experience supporting and leading systems engineering activities and developing associated documentation

  6. Experience leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams, including technical reviews

  7. Ability to mentor, review, critique, and redefine engineering processes

  8. Deep understanding of the state-of-the-art for in-space manufacturing

  9. Experience creating development schedules, systems requirements, and budgets, general knowledge of costs for space-related systems

  10. Ability to work under pressure and adhere to tight deadlines

  11. Effective communication skills and the ability to build strong working relationships

Alignment Ideals

It’s not enough to just have the skills and abilities to be a great fit for this role. CisLunar Industries has its very own DNA of behavioral and cultural ideals that our current team shares and which we seek in future team members. We are looking for candidates who have the following:

  1. Passion for Space – We are looking for people who want to build the machines that will produce materials off-world to enable humanity to live sustainably for millennia to come. If you are the type of person that isn’t afraid to jump into a challenge and knows how to learn to rapidly attack problems nobody has solved - we want you!

  2. Trust/Honesty – We are all on a mission to create something new, and with that comes a lot of national security and intellectual property concerns. We have to be able to trust each other to support compliance and confidentiality throughout our work together and know that we can always be assured that each of us has each other’s interests as well as our own in mind.

  3. Dependable/Responsible – We are a startup in the Space industry, moving at the speed of light it seems. We must be able to rely on each other to get our work done with minimal supervision and to help each other out when needed.

  4. Focused – Working on federal projects and with various partners always requires a focus on the end goal. We have many deadlines and specific dates that we need to meet to prove our capabilities, which in turn requires each team member to stay motivated and focused every day.

  5. Knowledgeable – We succeed when we have the right people in the right positions who know what they must do. It has also proven extremely beneficial to have team members who stay up to date with industry news, standards, and innovations, while finding ways to apply this knowledge not only to their area of expertise, but to everything else CisLunar Industries is doing.

  6. Team Player/Cooperative – While we all focus on our specific tasks and responsibilities, we appreciate team members who constantly keep the overall goals of the team and the company in mind, looking for ways they can help support where they can, whether it’s with their specific proficiencies or interests.

If you don’t have the exact years or degrees listed above, but your passion can’t be matched, don’t hesitate to apply!

About CisLunar Industries

Metal processing. In space. For space.

Building and operating space foundries to enable the next Industrial Revolution.

CisLunar Industries (www.cislunarindustries.com) is developing, manufacturing, and operating patented Modular Space Foundries (MSFs) to process metal in space for use in space. At the turn of the 20th century, Andrew Carnegie’s steel mills laid the foundation for the modern industrial economy. In the 21st century, CisLunar Industries' space foundries will enable the industrial economy in space and the beginning of our interplanetary future.

To benefit from metal resources in space they must be processed and transported. The MSF meets both needs by transforming metal feedstocks into materials for in-space manufacturing and propellant for in-space logistics.
